ALCor's Corner!

Pat Craig, WSUAC ALCor

The Wright State University Astronomy Club is an official society member of the Astronomical League. The League is a national organization that supports astronomy clubs throughout the country. I am presently serving as Astronomical League Correspondent ("ALCor") for WSUAC, and here you will find information and updates on Astronomical League goings-on relative to our organization.

Updates:

  • NOTE TO PAID WSUAC MEMBERS: if you have not been receiving your copy of The Reflector, please contact Pat immediately to let him know. We will double-check your mailing address and send corrections to the main League office if needed.

  • ALCon 2010 will be held in Tucson, Arizona at the Tucson Hilton East (7600 East Broadway, Tucson) from June 25th to 26th. The convention will be hosted by the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association, the International Dark Sky Association, and, of course, the AL. The web site can be viewed at http://www.alcon2010.astroleague.org, and the e-mail address is ALCon2010Expo-AT-gmail.com (change the "-AT-" to "@" when copying the address into your mail program).

  • Astronomy Day is observed by the AL on both April 24th and October 16th, 2010. For more information, contact Rickey Ainsworth, Assistant Astronomy Day Coordinator, at 616-456-3537, rainswor-AT-ci.grand-rapids.mi.us (change the "-AT-" to "@" when copying the address into your mail program). The Astronomy Day web site is at http://www.astroleague.org/al/astroday/astroday.html.

  • AL volunteer opportunity:
    Opportunity as Legue Publications Chair
The Astronomical League is seeking someone to fill the important volunteer position of Publications Chair. The candidate would work to bring new observing manuals to the membership and to revise the League's curreent observing guides as needed. Interedsted people shoul dhav esome astronomical knowledge to allow effective content editing. Experience in manuscript editing and copyright issues are a definite plus.

This is a great opportunity for you to help the League help amateur astronomy! Pleas contact Terry Mann, starsrus-AT-infinet.com (change the "-AT-" to "@" when copying the address into your mail program), for more details.
